Lip filler in King’s Cross and Islington, done the way most of my clients want it: natural, balanced, and still recognisably your own lips. Some people come to me for a little more shape. Many, especially women over 40, come because their lips have thinned, lost their edges or started to collect fine lines, and they want them to look healthy again rather than bigger.

Lip filler can define the lip border, balance asymmetry and add volume for a refined look. I use it with a light hand: hydration and definition first, size only if you want it.

What can lip filler do?

  • Define the border, so the edge of your lip looks crisp again.
  • Hydrate lips that look dry or crepey.
  • Soften fine lines around the mouth, including the vertical lines above the upper lip.
  • Balance asymmetry, when one side is fuller than the other.
  • Add gentle volume, if and where your lips need it.

Lip filler over 40: definition, not size

With age, lips gradually lose volume and definition, the border blurs, and fine vertical lines appear around the mouth. Adding size doesn’t fix any of that. On a mature face, big lips just look like big lips.

What helps is putting back a little hydration and structure: a clearer edge, softer lines, and lips that look well rested. People notice that you look fresh. They don’t notice filler.

If you’re younger and after more shape, the same rules apply. We work with your natural proportions, and I’ll tell you honestly what will suit your face.

Lip filler, lip booster or lip flip?

Three different treatments that people often mix up.

TreatmentWhat it doesAppointmentPrice
Lip fillerDefines the border, balances asymmetry, hydrates and adds volume1 hour£175
Lip Booster / Lip HydrationNot a filler: hydrates, smooths and gently plumps while enhancing the shape you already have45 minutes£150
Lip flipAn anti-wrinkle treatment that relaxes the muscles around the mouth, so the upper lip looks fuller and more defined30 minutes£150

The Lip Booster is suitable for anyone who wants more youthful lips, and it’s a good lighter option if you’re nervous about filler or your lips mainly look dry rather than thin.

The lip flip works on muscle, not on the lip itself, so it’s a different treatment altogether. Like all anti-wrinkle treatment, it starts with a face-to-face consultation and assessment with me. You can read more about it on the anti-wrinkle injections page.

What happens at your lip filler appointment?

Your appointment is an hour, so nothing is rushed. We start by talking about what you’d like to change and what you’d like to keep. I look at your lips in proportion to the rest of your face, because lips that suit your face are lips that look natural.

Lips are part of the lower face, so I plan them the way I plan any lower face treatment: I assess and measure your facial proportions and work in line with the golden ratio. That includes the balance between your upper and lower lip, the shape of your Cupid’s bow, and how your lips sit against your chin and nose. The result should look like your lips on a very good day.

Then I clean the area and treat. Most lip fillers contain a local anaesthetic, which helps keep you comfortable. If you’re nervous, tell me: we can allow extra time for you to relax and settle in first.

You’ll see the result straight away, although swelling means the first day or two isn’t the finished picture.

How long does lip filler last?

Most people find lip filler lasts around 6 to 12 months. Lips move all day, every day, so filler there tends to fade sooner than in the cheeks or chin.

When it softens, you can top up or let it fade. There’s no obligation either way.

Swelling, bruising and aftercare

Lips swell more than most areas: swelling is often most noticeable the morning after and settles over the next few days, and any bruising can take 7 to 10 days to fade. So plan your treatment for a time when you don’t have any big events coming up.

Skip lipstick for 12 hours, and go easy on saunas, hard workouts and alcohol while any swelling settles. I’ll go through your aftercare with you before you leave.

Old filler, or filler you’re not happy with?

If you’ve had filler elsewhere and it has moved, feels lumpy or simply isn’t you any more, hyaluronic acid filler can usually be dissolved. Filler dissolving is £150 and starts with an assessment, so we know exactly what we’re dealing with. If you’d like to refill afterwards, it’s best to wait 2 to 4 weeks.

The fact that it can be dissolved is also one reason hyaluronic acid filler is a sensible choice for lips.

Lip filler as part of a bigger plan

Lips don’t sit on their own. If the corners of your mouth have started to turn down, or your jawline is softer than it was, the Lower Face Rejuvenation Package treats the lower third of the face as a whole. Areas may include the jawline, chin, lips and marionette lines, all planned around your facial proportions. It’s our most popular package, at £497.

For volume elsewhere in the face, see dermal filler. If you’re weighing up filler against anti-wrinkle treatment, anti-wrinkle injections vs dermal filler explains the difference.

Frequently asked questions

How long does lip filler last?

Most people find it lasts around 6 to 12 months, depending on the product and how quickly your body breaks it down. Lips move constantly, so they fade sooner than other areas.

Will my lips look overdone?

That’s not how I work. I start from your natural proportions and build definition and hydration first. You can always add a little more later, which is far better than wishing you’d had less.

Does lip filler hurt?

Lips are sensitive, but most lip fillers contain a local anaesthetic to help keep you comfortable. If you’re nervous, tell me and we’ll take our time.

How long does lip filler swelling last?

Swelling is usually most noticeable the morning after and settles over the next few days, and bruising, if you get any, can take 7 to 10 days to fade.

Can lip filler help with lip lines?

It can help soften fine vertical lines around the mouth, by adding hydration and support to the lip and its border. The Lip Booster is a lighter option if hydration is your main concern.

What's the difference between lip filler and a lip flip?

Lip filler adds hydration, shape and volume to the lip itself. A lip flip is an anti-wrinkle treatment that relaxes the muscles around your mouth, so your upper lip looks fuller and more defined. Like all anti-wrinkle treatment, a lip flip starts with a face-to-face consultation and assessment with me.

Can lip filler be dissolved?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can usually be dissolved, including filler done elsewhere. Filler dissolving is £150, and if you’d like to refill, it’s best to wait 2 to 4 weeks.
